In a world much like our own, but with more danger and more mystery, a young boy named Gon Freecss, raised since infancy by his aunt, discovers from a traveling stranger his father’s true identity: Ging Freecss, a world-famous Hunter.
In this world, you see, there are elite mercenaries known as Hunters. And Hunters truly are elite: among other benefits, they get access to world-class amenities and exotic locales that are off-limits to ordinary people. Of course, the life of a Hunter is also dangerous, for Hunters make their living taking on some of the most dangerous missions on Earth. Some scour the world for treasures or exotic goods, while others are Bounty Hunters who track down the world’s most dangerous criminals. Gon isn’t so much interested in riches or fame, however: he wants to be a Hunter so he can track down his father.
Wow, just wow! I had few concerns when I started watching this anime, first it is a hell of a long show, 148 episodes long. (146 if we don’t include the two recap episodes) My first impression after episode 1 was “Oh no, this is so childish, how am I going to watch this till the end?”. BUT as the story progressed this “childishness” gone mostly and when it is used, it is used for some kind of a hammer. Lengthwise, I actually think that it is rather “short” than “long”. What do I mean by that? When we reach the end of this anime, there are quite a few things that should have happed but it never did. It’s hard to talk about it without spoilers. (I know that the manga isn’t finished and there are probably going to be a continuation of this anime its the future, not necessarily in the close future, though) In conclusion, this anime is definitely a must to watch and worth the time invested into it.
